With billions of images stitched together in the street-view matrix, it is highly unlikely two artists operating independently of one another would happen upon nine identical scenes. On the other hand, in the huge dataset that is GSV, it’s understandable that artists would gravitate towards scenes that appeal to human emotion once they are identified and permalinked.

Navigating the Puzzle of Google Street View ‘Authorship’ ~ Pete Brook – Raw Files – Wired Magazine

“In Tumblr and blog culture, authorship tends to get lost as interesting texts get blogged and reblogged without even the expectation of citation,” says Rafman. “I’ve had my entire blog stripped and reposted on someone else’s blog without attribution. In fact, you know you have ’succeeded’ on the internet when your work is circulated so much that you lose authorship. The notion of an internet ‘commons’ can be a two-edged sword.”

Rafman’s Nine Eyes and Wolf’s A Series of Unfortunate Events are the two most well-known and most circulated projects of the Google Street View (GSV) ilk. Rafman continues to add images to Nine Eyes, while Wolf has since ventured into newer sets with a geographical focus on Paris and New York.

I ‘met’ Martín Castillo Morales a few years back through Flickr, as I was intrigued by his pictures of women and interiors, and the casual ‘day in the life feel for his subject matter. His photography reminded me of the writing of Henry Miller, and I could not stop looking at his life through his photo stream. Martín Castillo Morales lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and he seems to be publishing his work and getting into shows these days. His work is compelling on several levels and I figured, since I revisited his Flickr site this morning, I might as well make an homage post on the relaunch of Rave + Remix.

Video for ‘Mexican Grand Prix’ taken from the album ‘Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will’ directed by Danny McConnell for Square Lips.

Stuart and Dominic met at a Ned’s Atomic Dustbin gig in Glasgow in 199? when they were 15 and four years after that, the band formed and Martin joined as the drummer.
They played a gig or two before Mr. John Cummings was added to the ranks. A while after that, before the recording of Mogwai Young Team, a temporary member with the name of Brendan O’Hare (ex-Teenage Fanclub, Macrocosmica) joined for the duration of the album before parting ways.
It wasn’t until the recording of Come On Die Young that Barry joined as a permanent member and that’s been the same since 1998.

We’re always looking for new members to join so that we can become famous for being the largest band in the world instead of the most talented. Mogwai Site

It’s rare that a one-word song title can accurately capture the feeling of the track it represents, but Star Slinger’s “Mornin’” does just that. This is the sound of the morning after, where befuddled notions of time and place slowly creep back into focus as you stumble out of bed on jellied legs. That passage back into the world is eased into shape by samples of the Staple Singers’ “Let’s Do It Again”, which begin as murkily coagulated and lightly pitch-shifted cut-ups that continuously gain more traditional form as the track progresses. Link to Review on Pitchfork

In comparison to Junior – which in many ways represents the more outgoing, youthful and direct part of Röyksopp, “Senior” is the introvert and darker sibling, who lives in the attic. The two albums (‘Junior’ and ‘Senior’) have a kinship, in that they represent Röyksopp’s two very different artistic expressions. ‘Junior’ – with emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas ‘Senior’ is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart – brimfull with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting “I’m old, I’ve got experience…”.

Röyksopp (Norwegian pronunciation: [??ø?ks?p]) is a Norwegian electronic music duo from Tromsø, formed in 1998. Since their inception, the band’s line-up has included Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland.
Originally, Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland were schoolmates in Tromsø, Norway. The two experimented with various forms of electronica music during the Tromsø techno scene before going their separate ways. Several years later, the two met up again and formed Röyksopp during the Bergen Wave. After experimenting with different genres of electronic music, the band solidified their place in the electronica scene with their 2001 debut album, Melody A.M., released on the Wall of Sound record label.

Röyksopp has consistently experimented with various genres pertaining to electronica. Stylistically, the band makes use of various genres, including Ambient, house music, drum and bass, and Afro-American sounds. The band is also known for its elaborate concert performances, which often feature eccentric outfits.

Architecture in Helsinki is an Australian indie pop band which consists of Cameron Bird, Gus Franklin, Jamie Mildren, Sam Perry, and Kellie Sutherland. Most of the group’s members play multiple instruments as their music makes use of a wide range of instruments, from analog synthesizers, samplers, the glockenspiel and handclaps; to concert band instruments like the trumpet, tuba, trombone, saxophone, clarinet and recorder; and the more standard guitars, bass guitar and drums.
